My Research
This page showcases some of the research projects I’ve worked on during high school. I’m especially interested in how health is connected to culture, society, and everyday life. Each project reflects what I’ve learned and what I’m still curious about as I explore the field of medical anthropology.
Comprehensive Strategies and Interventions for BRCA1 and BRCA2 Mutations in Cancer Prevention and Mitigation
I conducted research and published a university-level paper focused on current and potential future cancer treatments designed to prevent and mitigate cancers caused by BRCA1/2 gene mutations. I was mentored by Daniel Salas-Escabillas, PhD, a postdoctoral researcher at Johns Hopkins University, throughout the process of writing my manuscript. My paper has been published by the Curieux Academic Journal.
Simulating single versus cocktail antibiotic effects on normal flora in the human gut microbiome
I conducted research on antibiotic resistance, focusing on simulating and comparing the emergence of resistance between single-drug treatments and combination therapies. I collaborated with a team to analyze the data, wrote a formal research paper, and presented our findings at the Capstone Seminar at the UCSB Summer Research Academies. Our manuscript has been submitted to the Journal of Emerging Investigators for publication.

Mental Health Stigma as Culturally Embedded: Using Anthropological Insights to Develop Stigma-Sensitive Care Models
I researched mental health stigma, focusing specifically on cultural dimensions and their impact on care models. I was mentored by PhD research advisor Kasey Discerns Morgan, who specializes in cultural anthropology. My manuscript has been submitted to Scholarly Review for publication.
